Clear Scalp and Hair Beauty Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Hi Pretties

Today I have a review for you on the Clear Scalp and Hair Beauty Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner (Total Nourishing Care).

I received this to trial as part of the BeautyHeaven.com.au trial team and I absolutely love this shampoo.  The packaging is really nice and slim, the 200ml bottle fits fantastically in my shower caddy.  The packaging is a nice colour and I have no issues with the pouring mechanism.

The shampoo itself is nice and thick, and it spreads really easily.  It lathers well and smells delicious.  I was initially concerned with the number of silicons in the shampoo but I do not have a problem with them at all.  My hair gets no greasier than with any other shampoo.

I really love this shampoo product and will be repurchasing.

I am generally quite fussy with my conditioners, sticking to salon brands but I really love this conditioner.  Like the shampoo, the 200ml is a great size for a shower caddy without taking up too much space.

My hair is recently highlighted and this has done a great job of nourishing my hair.  After the highlighting my hair wasn't in the best shape but this has really improved it's condition.

The smell of the conditioner is great and my hair feels so silky smooth with use.

I will be repurchasing this conditioner that's for sure.

Loreal Revitalift BB Cream

Hey Pretties

Today I have a review for you on the Loreal Paris Revitalift 10 Total Repair BB Cream.

I was sent this to trial by Beauty Heaven as part of the video trial team in the colours light and medium.

I gave the light one a go as I am quite fair and am well aware that medium would be way to dark for me.

The packaging of this is a brick red and to be honest I feel it sort of screams 'we're aged at mature skin' rather than marketing to a wider audience.  The bottle itself I have no issues with (bar colour), it is light weight with a  nice big cap so it is easy for travelling.

Before and After

On my face in the before picture is just a little Loreal Luminosity Serum and some residual eye make up (just so I don't look completely scary!) and after is with the BB cream applied using my fingers.  I attempted to use a foundation brush but all I got was a streaky application.  This clung to areas on my cheeks and required some force to rub in.  It then started to pill :-/

I feel my complexion look rather ruddy in the after photo and this has not done a great deal for my skin except make me look orangy/ruddy/shiny AND you can still see redness on my cheeks and minor sun spots and blemishes.  Not exactly what I want.

The price tag of this product is around $35 and I feel this is way over the top.  I would not pay that for it.

Let me know if you have tried this product and what you thought of it!

September Favourites

Hey Pretties

Today I wanted to share my September favourites.  These are the products I have been loving during the month of September.  Normally I limit myself to 5 but this month I just couldn't narrow it down so I chose 10!  My favourites I'll do what I want! haha

1. My Inglot palette.  I finally finished off my palette last weekend at Imats (yea for Imats!) and now have 10 beautiful colours.  If you would like to see swatches and more details, leave me a comment!

2. Physican's Formula blush in Rose Pearl.  I got this in my BeautyHeaven.com.au beautoriam haul, and it is the pretties pink semi shimmery colour.  I loves it!

3. Third is a long standing favourite which is rapidly showing me more pan than product!  It's Rimmel Stay Matte Powder is translucent.  No details necessary, this is a much loved cult item.

4. My first lash and brow gel.  Now I couldn't imagine life without this product.  This one is by Essence.

5. To keep my fav blush company I have a blush brush.  This favourite is by Coastal Scents and it came in my 22 piece brush set.  It's perfectly dense but super soft at the same time.  It gives perfect application.

6. Number six is my Chi Chi eyeliner in Virgin.  This is a white eye liner that I have really been enjoying on my water line in September.  The lighter colour around the eyes is really nice as the weather warms up.

7. Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in 20 light.  'Nuff said.

8. Numero eight is my newish palette by BYS in Neutral Charm.  Really pretty Autumn colours, it's a shame it's spring!  A lot of these colours are still quite usable though for the warmer months.

9. Essence Gel liner in 01 Midnight in Paris.  I've been really enjoying gel eyeliner this month and this Essence one is great.  And cheap!  My one complaint is this really crappy to remove.  Takes a whole lot of scrubbing but it's worth it.

10. A cult item.  Revlon Whipped Color Stay Foundation is 150 Buff.

What are your favourites for the month of September?

Sleek i-Divine Oh So Special Palette

Hey Pretties

My Sleek order came today yea!

I ordered back on the 10th the Sleek i-Divine Oh So Special Palette from sleekmakeup.com and it arrived today :)

I purchased this palette for $9.99 with $2.77 postage.  Super cheap right!  A great price for 12 eye shadows.

There are several different palettes in the i-Divine series but this is the one that caught my eye and demanded I buy it and give it a new home in my collection.  This palette contains a mix of matte and shimmer shadows, perfect for creating loads of different looks.

I love how the palette comes with an overlay so you can see the shadow names.  It also comes with a double ended sponge tip applicator and a weighty mirror.  The mirror is huge!

I'm really looking forward to giving this palette a whirl and I think it will be great for spring!

So tell me, have any Sleek palettes demand you purchase them?

Unsubscribing from "the boxes"

Hi Pretties

Today I wanted to talk about my decision to unsubscribe from "the boxes".  By the boxes I mean Bellabox and LustHaveIt.

I have been subscribed to Bellabox since March and LustHaveIt since around June and was initially elated with the boxes.  I've gotten some great stuff in each box, and really enjoyed many of the products.  BUT, I have not tried one product that I wish to repurchase, and have more lotions and skin scrubs than I can poke a stick at.  I'm not wanting to sound ungrateful as I really appreciate what each of these boxes are doing, but I have decided they are not for me.  The novelty has worn off.

Cancelling both my memberships has left me with an extra $30 each month which I am now spending on a gym membership at the cost of $32 a month.  My body will thank me for it!

Bellabox
From my experiences with Bellabox I have really enjoyed their boxes.  They seem to be focused on more natural, skincare type products.  Again, I have not wanted to purchase anything I have tried and I have received a hell of a lot of brown lipsticks from them.  No so fussed on the brown.  Another complaint I have with Bellabox is the shipping.  Now I know they can only do so much and Australia Post does the rest, but for some reason I get to read all the blog posts on a Friday about what people have received, and I don't get my box until the following Monday.  If only they would ship out all the boxes on a Monday, everyone would receive them in the same week.

LustHaveIt
LustHaveIt seems to be a bit more of a fun box.  I've gotten more hair care and makeupy type items from LustHaveIt.  Although lately the boxes seem to be lacking a little in terms of content.  Possibly due to the takeover of Glossy Box and the new Eco-Boxes it may have all become a little too much for them to handle. In terms of shipping I seem to be one of the first to get the LustHaveIt box, but they do come later in the month.  I don't really have complaints about the box coming later as it still comes in the month it is expected.

If I had to chose between the two I would chose Bellabox.  They are more consistent and seem a little more stable, but if skincare is not for you then avoid this box!

Tell me, are you still subscribed to the boxes?

BYS Eyeshadow Palette in Neutral Charm

Hi Pretties

I just wanted to share with you a really cute eyeshadow palette I picked up yesterday from KMart for $7.75!

The colours are gorgeous and while I was not expecting much from this palette the colours swatch really nicely, have great pigment and are long wearing with an eyeshadow primer.

Closed

Open - Comes with 2 double ended applicators and a tiny mirror under there

Top row swatched

Bottom row swatched

I think this palette is great for the price.  $7.75!  A bargain!  While the colours are not very 'springy' they are certainly beautiful and I think I will get a lot of wear out of this palette.

Sukin Moisturiser Bonus Offer at Priceline

Hi Pretties

I just wanted to share with you today a little bonus offer I found at my local Priceline at is in fact advertised in the current catalogue but I had missed it and maybe you have too!

It's the Sukin Rose Hip Oil with bonus full sized moisturiser.  This pack is valued at $29.98 and on sale for $19.99 in the catalogue.  I'm not sure if it was only the new Priceline near my work (Maitland), but I actually got this set for $16!

I've been using it for two days now and I am in love!  The smell of the moisturiser is amazing, and my skin seems plumper and more refreshed already.

I recommenced checking it out to see if you can get this bargain as well!

Avene Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

Hey pretties

I'm just full of empty product reviews at the moment!  I've finished off yet another Bellabox/LustHaveIt sample and this time it is the Avene Gentle Eye Makeup Remover.

I actually really disliked this product when I first tried it as the consistency is really strange.  It is quite gel like and it really put me off at first.  I have really grown to like this product though as it does a great job at removing eye makeup.  I tend to judge my eye makeup removers by whether or not they will remove Essence Gel Liner and this actually managed to do this.

It is very gentle and doesn't sting the eyes at all.  If I didn't have a spare of this product I would be purchasing this straight away.

A great product.

Empty Product Review - Pure Fiji Hydrating Body Lotion

Hey Pretties

Today is another empty product review for you.  This time it is on the Pure Fiji Hydrating Body Lotion in Orange Blossom infusion.

I received this product in a LustHaveIt and it smells amazing.  I have heard a lot of great things about the Pure Fiji brand and I quite enjoyed.

The disappointing thing about this product is the cap broke and it required quite a bit of effort to secure it back on.  It was also difficult to get the product out of the container and took a bit of effort to get the last bits out.

As far as the product itself it is a nice lotion.  I love the smell and it is hydrating enough without leaving any kind of sticky residue.

I will definitely repurchase this product or another product in the Pure Fiji range if not for the smell alone!

Empty Product Review - Dove Sensitive Skin Nourishing Body Wash

Hi Pretties

Hope you are having a great weekend!  Today I have an empty product review on the Dove Sensitive Skin Nourishing Body Wash that I received a couple of months ago as part of the BeautyHeaven.com.au trial team.

This product retails for around $6.99 at Supermarkets and Priceline etc and is readily available for purchase.

I really liked this product and the smell is very inoffensive which I think would be great for those with fragrance sensitive skin.  I study seasonal eczema and this product didn't irritate my skin at all.  I didn't improve it, but it didn't make the situation worse.  I also found this product great to use as a shaving cream.

I would definitely repurchase this product.

August 2012 Favourites

Hey Pretties

I wanted to share with you today my favourites for the month of August.  I'm super excited to say goodbye to August as we also get to say goodbye to winter here in the Southern Hemisphere and hello to spring so I could not be happier!

As always I like to keep my favourites to just 5 to stop me from rambling and rambling and if there are any questions on specific products I can do a whole review.

Firstly I could not decide which blush was my favourite this month so I decided to include the two I have been using the most.

The first blush is 'Primrose' by Face Of Australia which is a medium dusty pink colour and the second is Fleur Power by Mac.  A stunning pinky/coral colour.

Next is my Inglot colour palette that I recently added to when I went to Chatswood.  I have particularly been loving the top three shades together as a warmer weather combo.

Next is my Revlon lip butter in Peach Parfait.  When I first bought this lip butter I wasn't particularly fussed with it but this month I have been really enjoying a nude(ish) lip and this is the perfect colour for that.

Lastly is a product by Rimmel London and it is the Exaggerate eye liner in noir.  I have not been well this month as I keep getting the flu on and off so I've been trying to get as much sleep as possible.  Quickly taking this eyeliner across my top and bottom lash line with a neutral colour swept across the lid has been getting me ready for work and out the door really quickly.

So tell me, what are your August favourites?

August Lust Have It - Open Box

Hey Pretties!

My August Lust Have It arrived today and the theme of the month is Fun and Flirty.  Unlike normal months where Lust Have It arrives in a colourful makeup bag, this month came in a large box instead.  I don't mind the makeup bags but I do prefer the box.  I feel obliged to keep the makeup bags but I really don't need them.  For me, a box is a little more useful.

This box contained contained a whopping total of 7 items!  That's pretty huge!

From left to right, back to front this box contains;

Appelles Body Booster Skin Lotion
Appelles Skin Detox Shower Gel
TanGo Tanning Glove
ModelCo Eyeliner in Black
Tigi Rockaholic Rock Out Shine Blaster
Appelles Body Bar Vegetable Soap
Mark Jacobs DOT Fragrance

I have mixed emotions about some of the products in this box.  The Tanning Glove has got me beat.  For one, it is not a glove but rather a strip of material quite similar to a face washer.  The $29.95 RRP on this stuns me and as I don't really self tan this product is not very useful for that purpose.  I do think it will make a nice face washer though.

ModelCo is a brand that confuses me also.  While I'm the first person to put my hand up and say "I love makeup items" I have never purchased a ModelCo eyeliner yet this is now the 4th one in my drawer.  They come in everything!  At least they are decent :)

The Appelles Body Bar Vegetable Soap is marketed at being 'unisex'.  Huh??  Since when are soaps discriminatory?

I guess my confusion is not with Lust Have It but the companies supplying the products and their interesting marketing tactics and the naming of their products.  A glove with no finger holes, a brand that I have quite a collection of that I have never purchased and unisex soap.  Gets me giggly lol.

Anyways back to LustHaveIt I am quite fond of this box and look forward to trying the products (however strange the marketing ploys may be).  Oh, and I LOVE the smell of the Tigi product.  Smells like lollies.

What was in your LustHaveIt?

August Bellabox - Open Box

Hi Pretties

My Bellabox came today yea!

The theme of this  month was 'Go Green' and this box contained natural products

The products in this box include;

Boujois Smoky Pencil - 72 Dark Purple
EmerginC Skincare - Kombucha Cleanser and Phytocell Cream
Luk Beautifood Lip Nourish - "Awful brown colour"
Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion
Lush Ro's Argan Body Conditioner
USPA Organic Wild Thyme Foot Pumice
Phytocare Daily C

Bonus Product
You, Me & Everybody Bodhi Me Hand Wash with every Bellabox purchase

In this months box I am most excited about the Lush body conditioner and the foot pumice.

I am least excited about the Luk Beautifood Lip Nourish.  This would be great if it wasn't awful brown!  I have no idea why Bellabox insists on giving me brown lip products.  It's not fair!

Anyways that is my August Bellabox.

What did you get in yours?

Empty Product Review - Essence Mascara

Hello lovelies

Today's empty product review is on the Essence Get Big Lashes Volume Boost Mascara.  I picked this up from Target for only $4.50 for the $20 makeup challenge (that I never filmed) and I freaking loved it!  For about a month.....

I think this mascara is fantastic if you love bold big lashes.  The brush is quite large and fibrous and distributes a great amount of product.  For about a month......

I normally will use a mascara for 8 weeks before I throw it out but this one I could only keep for 4 weeks. While the formula was perfect to start with and had no flakes or anything after a couple of weeks I noticed that by the end of the day it was starting to flake and the texture had changed quite a bit.  It also developed an awful smell.

Would this stop me repurchasing?  No, probably not.  I really enjoyed this for 4 weeks and for the price of it I can justify only having if for that long.  I would normally spend $10-20 on a mascara anyway so it does work out to be the same price.

Empty Product Review - TN Dickson's Witch Hazel Toner

Hi Pretties

I have an empty product review for you today.

This is the T.N. Dickson's All Natural Witch Hazel.  This is a HG product for me.  I could not even tell you how many bottles of this I have gone through but I have been using this for at least the last 8 years.  My step-mother got me onto this and I can't thank her enough.  It only costs around $8.50 as well so it is quite affordable but you can normally find it on special for around $6 as somewhere.  This can be a little hard to find sometimes, but it is available at most of the major stores but it is the only  T.N. Dickson's product available in Australia so it can be hidden well at times.

I love this product because it has one ingredient.  100% Distilled Witch Hazel containing 14% Alcohol.  No, the alcohol is not drying.

This has got to be the gentlest product I have ever put on my face as well.  There is no stinging around the eyes at all and it even removes excess make up you may have missed.

I rate this product 11/10 and will purchase as long as I can find it.

Crappy Product Review - Redwin Coal Tar Fragrance Shampoo

Hi Pretties

I have a review for you to day that I was extremely disappointed in.  So disappointing in that I am throwing it in the bin.

This is the Redwin Sensitive Skin Coal Tar Fragrance Shampoo Dry Scalp Management for healthy hair and scalp.  Redwin says this does the following;

Removes flaking scalp
Soothes itchy scalp
Moisturizes dry scalp

I say it does this;

None of the above
Makes flakes worse
Dry's hair out
Smells bad

I'll start with why I purchased this.  I suffer from seasonal flakes so going into winter I get flaky and going into summer I get flaky.  It's not dandruff but dry scalp.  I normally use the Neutrogena Coal Tar shampoo which I love, but it costs $12 so when I saw this one for only $4.50 I just had to give it a go.  I was in a hurry so I grabbed it and left the shop (I paid first of course).

After I used this the first time I was baffled as to why my hair was so dry and my flakes were worse.  And the itching!  I studied the bottle a little closer and realized this is not actually a coal tar shampoo but coal tar fragrance   Why first question was why the hell would they do that?  It's a crappy smell to start with.  The ingredients list is not even remotely similar to the Neutrogena Coal Tar shampoo either.  I guess that is my mistake though for not checking more carefully.

Anyway.  Boo to this product.  It's going in the bin!

Olay Pro X Advanced Cleansing System - Open Box/ First Impressions

Hi pretties

I wanted to share an open box/ first impressions product that I purchased off Amazon.com.

I was looking for a product similar to the Clarisonic Mia as $150 is way out of my budget for a product that I don't particularly need.  I do not have acne scaring, and I only suffer occasional hormonal breakouts so for me $150 is just too much for me to spend on a product I don't particularly need.

I started doing some research into similar products and dupes for the Clarisonic at a lower price and I came across a product I really wanted to give it a try.  This product does not work the same as the Clarisonic.  Where the Clarisonic vibrates back and forward this product rotates so it is quite different technology.

My parcel came from Amazon.com today that I ordered on 30 July 2012 so it only took a week to get here.  It was left by my front door out of the weather as no one was home.

This is what the open box looks like.  Nice and secure for international travel.

When I open up the first box this is what was inside (I have already inserted the batteries).  The package comes with the cleansing system, a brush head, 2 AA batteries and an exfoliating cleanser.  I also ordered 2 replacement brush heads at the same time.  The whole package plus shipping cost me $40.

The back of the system has two control buttons.  The top button switches it on and the second button changes the speed.  There are two speed settings.

I have not yet seen this product in Australia (have not been looking for it though either) so I ordered it Internationally.  The box says the unit has; two speeds, water resistant, replaceable soft bristle brush heads available, pro-x exfoliating renewal cleanser (sample), cleanses 6 times better than basic cleansing.

Overall I'm pleased with the product so far.  The bristles feel so gentle, the unit is quite sturdy and looks pretty simple.

I will give you an update in a few weeks with the results (if any) I am getting with this product!

Caitlin xoxo

August Featured Blogger! Get to know Sandy

Hi pretties

I have decided to start a new series and include a featured blogger each month!

My featured blogger for August is the talented Sandy from Love or Sick Addiction.

Get to know Sandy from her questionnaire below!  She has some fabulous tips to share with my lovely followers :)

Name: Sandy

Blog name: Love or Sick Addiction

Blog URL: http://loveorsickaddiction.blogspot.com.au/

Blog social networking sites: None yet

Your location: Sydney

I was born in the (60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s): 90s

What is the main focus of your blog? Makeup and Beauty

What made you decide to start blogging? I had a lot to share and talk about but don't know anyone who shares the same passions as me

Do you have any tips for aspiring bloggers? If you've been wanting to do it for a while, just do it! Don't worry so much about what other people think because you would be surprised.

What is one beauty item you cannot live without? Under eye concealer

What is your most re-purchased item? Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil. I think I'm on my 4th or 5th one.

What is your favourite brand? So hard to choose just one. I'd have to say either Maybelline or Chi Chi. I like different brands for different things :)

What is your best budget buy? Essence Gel Eyeliner. Amazing for just under $4

Lipgloss or lipstick? Lipstick!!!

Your biggest beauty sin? Probably using my makeup past its expiration. I've had eyeshadows for longer than the 2-3 years it says you can keep it. As long as the looks, smells and works the same as always, I'll keep using it.

Your best makeup tip? Even if I've applied foundation with a sponge, fingers or regular foundation brush, I still lightly stipple over with a clean stippling brush. This just makes sure everything is blended and makes my skin look extra flawless!

Your best hair care tip? Don't wash your hair everyday. Even if you get really greasy, eventually your scalp will balance out and you won't get oily so fast

Your best skin care tip? Similar reasoning behind the haircare one. If you have oily skin, don't keep trying to strip the oil off your face. You skin realises it's dry so it keeps producing more oil. Ever since I eased off, my skin as gone from oily to normal.

Your favourite quotation? Gossmakeupartist always has this in his video intros and it's so true. "No amount of makeup can mask an ugly heart" - Kevyn Aucoin.

I would like to thank Sandy for being my August featured blogger, and would love for everyone to check out her blog.  You will also find a 'quick link' in my sidebar for the whole month of August to her blog as well.

Sandy has been kind enough to share with you one of her famous perfume inspired looks as well.  Check that out here!

Empty product review - Smartskin Moisturising facial cleansing wipes

The hunt continues for the perfect facial cleansing wipe.  This is not it!

The Smartskin wipes are the Woolworths branded wipes and cost only a couple of dollars.

The pros- cheap, do the job

The cons - wipe is too thin, not particularly moisturising, sting the eye area.

I think that about sums it up.  I won't be repurchasing these.

Empty Product Review - Avene Eluage Eye Contour Care

Hi Pretties

Today's empty product review is on the Avene Eluage Anti-Age Reconstruction Eye Contour Cream.  I received this in the May Bellabox and I recently had the chance to use this when I finished off my Palmers eye cream.

Being 25, eye creams are a preventative measure for me.  I am beginning to see some fine lines around my eyes so I really want to nip them in the bud and hold them off as long as I can.  I really liked this eye cream.  The product was nice and gentle, blended well and not too heavy. If I didn't keep getting eye creams in my Belllaboxes and LustHaveIt's I may just purchase a full size of this.  I guess that is one downside of the beauty boxes, they keep you in products like this so you don't need to buy then.  Kind of counterproductive for the brands I think.

Have a great day!

Empty Product Review - Bobbi Brown Mascara

This is an empty product review for the Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara that came in a May's Bellabox.

This was a really nice product to receive in a Bellabox and a really nice size.

This mascara is nice and black and does indeed lengthen quite nicely.  The only thing I didn't really like about this mascara is that it kind of gave me spider lashes.  While it lengthened, it did nothing for volume or texture.  It also seemed to dry out pretty quickly.

A nice mascara but I won't be purchasing for full price.

July Lust Have It - Open Box

Hi pretties

My Lust Have It came yesterday so it's time for another open box post.  While I wasn't overly excited about this months box (bag) there are a lot of practical travel items in this box.

Pure Fiji Hydrating Body Lotion (Orange Blossom Infusion) - This product smells amazing and I have previously tried the Pure Fiji Body Butter and I really liked it.

Avene Gentle Eye Makeup Remover - This eye makeup remover is for sensitive eyes and came at a great time as this is the perfect travel size and I also finished off my current eye makeup remover tonight.

Avene Gentle Purifying Scrub - I pretty much have tiny scrubs coming out of my ears but this will be another one to try.  It is for sensitive skin also.

Matrix Biolage Smooththerapie Smoothing Conditioner - I currently use the Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie De-tangling Solution so it will be good to try another Matrix conditioner.  It is also a great travel size.

Matrix Biolage Smooththerapie Smoothing Shampoo - Same deal as the conditioner!

Tigi Bead Head Shine Junkie - I am very unimpressed with this colour.  It's a gross colour so hopefully it comes out clear and it seems quite chunky in the tube.  Ikky

So that's my Lust Have It for July.  Were you impressed with your box?

You can watch the video review here;

Stopping My Stash - Day 3

Hello there

Today was pretty un-successful for my shopping my stash challenge.  Most of my blushes I use regularly and I've given all my bronzers a go so today I only got to use 2 products.

Today I wore the Essence Stay All Day long lasting eyeshadow in Stars and Stories .  It's not that I don't use this eyeshadow a lot, it is that I have never used it!  It's a bright metallic silver in the pot which I thought would be a bit much for everyday but it turns out this is quite a bit muted and a nice lid colour.

The second product I rarely use as I don't have much of a use for.  It is a synthetic Coastal Scents brush ideal for cream eyeshadow so, I used it for cream eyeshadow.

Well that's it for today!  Hopefully I have better luck shopping my stash tomorrow!

Shopping My Stash - Day Two

Hi Pretties

Welcome to shopping my stash day two.  I managed to use another 5 neglected items today.

First up is a ModelCo lipgloss from a LustHaveIt in Showgirl red.  No real reason for neglecting this product I just prefer lipsticks.  This gloss has a nice sheer tint to it and it quite shiny.  This is not sticky at all which is really nice.

Next up is another product from my Priceline gift with purchase bag from a couple of months ago.  This is a nice Australis blush from the Paparazzi Perfect line in Poser.  I neglect this because it is very pigmented.  Even if I use a stippling brush to lightly apply it is very dark and can almost look muddy at times.  By the end of the day when it has started to wear off my skin it is a much prettier colour.

Another neglected Mac product.  This is an eyeshadow in the colour Blanc Type.  The only real reason this gets neglected is most palettes have a highlight shade that is just easier to use than this one being a single shadow.  I wore this across the lid today and as a brow highlight.

Fourth product is the colour 284 from the Loreal Studio Secrets range.  I wore this in my crease today for a very natural look.  I don't generally reach for this eyeshadow much as it is not overly pigmented and takes a bit of work to get a good colour pay off.  It's too much hard work of a morning.

Lastly is another old, old bronzer.  This particular one is by Face of Australia called Outback bronze.  A little too shimmery for a bronzing powder as I much prefer a matte bronzer (like Hoola!).  It is also the type where you shake a little out into the lid so it is a little hard to get an even application with a large brush.

Thanks for reading my pretties.

Have you shopped your stash today?

Shopping my stash - Day 1

Anyone with a largish makeup collection knows that you are going to have favourites.  Products will get neglected and start to feel a little depressed if they don't get some love.  That's why I have devoted this week to be a 'shop my stash week' for my unloved products.

The aim of the game is to stop reaching for my favourites and give some of my other makeup a chance.  The pieces I have chosen are ones that I cannot remember the last time I used them.  Today I managed to use 4 less used products!

The first product is old.  Really old.  So old the label has pretty much worn off and I have not seen this packaging for years.  I should probably throw it out, but I hate wastage.  In case you can't tell what it is, it is a bronzer by Covergirl in the shade Soleil.  I actually think they still make this shade but the packaging has changed.  I used this today instead of my Hoola bronzer and it did the job.  I have not fallen in love with it again yet though.

Secondly I gave an unloved lipstick a go.  I still don't like this either.  I got this Revlon lipstick for free with the Priceline gift with purchase bag.  The colour is called Blush and it is a orangy based nude which is not a great colour for me.  It looks like my lips but more orange when I can get it to show up at all.  This I may actually ditch.  I don't like it and I don't think I ever will.

Yup, I'm neglecting an expensive Mac product.  I did my research online before ordering this blush and I really wished I had waited until I went into the store but I am inpatient and couldn't wait and just ordered it online.  I tossed up for about 2 hours between Well Dressed and Dame and decided on Well Dressed.  I wish I picked Dame.  This colour is just a little too sheer for me and I really have to pack it on to get any colour to show up.  I'm pale too!  I don't really dislike this blush but since getting Benefit Thrrrob I rarely use it as the colours are so similar but the Benefit just has way better colour pay off.

The last product I really like.  It is an eyeshadow palette by BYS called Summer Sheen (I blogged about this here and have included swatches).  I bought this back in April and the colours are amazing but sadly it has gotten a little neglected for a couple of reasons.  1. This was an impulse buy and around $6.  I had not long before ordered my UD Naked Palette and it arrived a couple of days after I got this.  Clearly I'm going to be way more excited about my UD Naked Palette that I had ordered and waited on and lusted over for months that an impulse buy. 2. The colours in the pan are very difficult to tell what they actually look like so it makes it pretty hard to put a look together without being covered in swatches.  I don't have time for swatches of a morning lol.  But I used this this morning and loved the look I came up with.  This is a little treasure I think I'll get some more use out of.

Thanks for reading pretties!  Stay tuned for episode 2 tomorrow of 'Shopping my stash!'

Teen makeup starter kit ideas

Hi pretties

I've been doing a lot of reminiscing lately about being a teenager, specifically around 13/14 years old and it got me thinking.  If I knew then what I know now, what would I do differently?  Being a beauty lover, of course my mind turned to makeup.  So I thought while it was on my mind I would compile a list of products I wish I had the sense and knowledge to buy back then.  You may be a teen reading this, or a parent looking for ideas for your teen, or just someone who reads my blog (thank you) but hopefully you will get something out of my ideas and experiences.

1.  Tinted moisturizer or a light foundation

When I was around 12 or 13 a neighborhood friend held a mother/daughter Nutrimetics party for the girls in our area.  There were around 6 of us in the street all around the same age.  The idea was we were starting to get an interest in make up so a beauty consultant could show us a few simple ideas to stop us looking like clowns when we started experimenting.  The first thing the consultant did was colour match us with a foundation or tinted moisturizer.  I highly, highly recommend getting colour matched for your first 'base' and investing in a quality product.  A foundation or tinted moisturizer can last you around 6 months and a  quality product can cost you around AUD$50.  If you wear it 5 days a week that equates to around 40 cents per application and the investment can be well worth it.  If you are a younger teen without an income, ask one of your relatives to get you product for a present :)

I highly recommend, however, if you don't need foundation that you stick to tinted moisturizer.  Keep your skin as fresh as you can for as long as you can.

2. Concealer

I am not a concealer wearer and I never have been.  Although when I was covered in hormonal pimples and spots I wish that I was.  Unfortunately my mother does not wear concealer and I have no older sisters who could show me the concealer ropes so I went without.  Concealer is another product I recommend getting colour matched at a counter for, but not necessarily paying a lot for either.  It can be a tricky thing to find a concealer that works for you so trying out a few inexpensive products and finding a formulation that works for you might be best.

Your under-eye concealer is generally a different product to your spot concealer so keep this in mind.  Again, if you can go without, please do.

3. Setting powder for oily skin

Many teens have oily skin and a mattifying setting powder can be very helpful keeping oily skin at bay.  This is one of the only times in this post I will recommend an actual product, but I am in love with Rimmel Stay Matte translucent powder.  I still use this product and can't rave about it enough.

4. Clear or brown mascara

Mascara can really make your eyes stand out and look great, but black can be quite a harsh look on young teens so stick to a clear or brown mascara.

5. An eye shadow palette

If you're just starting out with make up or looking for an essential product for your collection I recommend investing in an eyes shadow palette.  Coastal Scents have some great deals on their website.  The great thing about being a teen is you get to experiment so experiment away!  You can also get away with shimmers as you don't have any fine lines for those glittery colours to settle into you.  I recommend the 88 shimmer palette and the 88 neutral palette from Coastal Scents.  You can get them for around AUD$15 on special every couple of weeks and they are full of a variety of colours to try out and decide what you like and what suits you.

6. Blush or bronzer

To be honest I didn't really start experimenting with bronzer until I was about 17, and blush until I was 24!  I think just one blush or bronzer is more than enough as a young teen and I wouldn't wear it every day.  Maybe save that one for a special occasion and get either a pale pink or coral blush (very hard to go wrong with either of those), and a mildly shimmery bronzer.  Just don't go overboard with either.

7. Lip gloss

Skip the lippy and invest in a clear or pale pink lip gloss.  This is a much fresher look for a teen and much easier to apply.  Ah my teen years were filled with 'Lip Smackers' and that sickly sweet smell still pops into my thoughts sometimes.

8. A decent brush set

Your brush set can make or break your makeup application and I recommend asking for a decent brush set for a Christmas or Birthday present as they can get quite expensive.  For a great kit at a great price I recommend the Coastal Scents 22 piece brush set (I promise Coastal Scents do not sponsor me I just think their products are great for starters and basics!), EcoTools brushes or Furless Cosmetics brush sets.

I honestly don't think a young teen requires any more makeup than this to start with and you can request product you may like to try out for birthdays and Christmas.

I hope this post has been helpful and if you have any questions please leave me a comment below :)

July Bellabox - Open Box

Hi Pretties

Bellabox came today!  The theme of this months Bellabox was Essential Beauty Buys.  These are supposed to be your most basic beauty products.  You can watch the video of the un-boxing right here!

Alternatively, read on to see what was inside!

This months Bellabox had a huge amount of products in it.  And no box!  The three larger products were inside the e-parcel and the smaller products were in the little blue bag in the picture.  That was nice for a change.  Unfortunately the blue bag is terrible quality but I probably wouldn't use it anyway.

Neutrogena Deep Clean Foaming Cleanser  ($13.99/175ml) - This is the first product I pulled out of the box.  I have not tried Neutrogena products in years and when I last did I had teenage skin and it really didn't work for me.  It will be interesting to see how it works on my adult skin now.

You, Me & Everybody Shady Lady Daily Face Milk ($9.99/75ml) - The second product I pulled out is a moisturizer/ sun screen.  Moisturizers with sun screen tend to break me out horribly so I will see how this goes.  If this is the case I will save this for summer use only when sunscreen is a real necessity.

Nutro-Synergy Sensitive Skin Cleanser ($15.95/500ml) - This large product is actually a sample size.  It's 100ml!  I'm not overly excited to get two large cleansers in Bellabox as my skin is quite picky with cleansers but hopefully neither of them will break me out or dry me out.  If not, more brush cleaners!

Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Scrub (No price listed) - This is the size product I would expect from a Bellabox.  My skin is not sensitive to scrubs and I only have a sample size at the moment anyway so I will get some use from this.

Elf Essentials Brush Range Brow and Lash Brush ($3.99/brush) - Elf is not a brand that is very popular in Australia.  It's not available in our stores but I am wondering if they will be introducing them to stores since they are making an appearance in Bellabox.  My mind is ticking.  Something to stay tuned to I think!

Carmex Moisturizing Lip Balm (5.99/tube) - I am yet to try Carmex but I have heard a lot of good things about the brand.  Hurray for lip balm in winter.  It is such a useful product.

Ulta3 nail polish in Mulberry ($2/bottle) - I have a few of the Ulta3 nail polishes and fortunately I don't have this colour.  I'm in two minds on receiving and Ulta3 polish in a Bellabox.  This has happened before and while it is not a luxury sample being that they are sold for $2, but on the other hand I would rather a product I would use than one that I dislike.

Givenchy Pi Neo sample (80/50ml) - A perfume sample for the men in your life.  A nice little extra however I hate these perfume samples in these little packets.  There is no good way to store them for a second use so I feel like I'm wasting the product.

Royal Moroccan Hair Repair Shampoo, Conditioner ($17.95/300ml) and Serum Treatment ($29.95/100ml) - I've seen this brand around the place and have been interested to try them.  These are great sized samples and I am looking forward to using them.

I am very pleased with this months Bellabox.  While there are no makeup samples I am quite content with the skin care.

Well done Bellabox!

Caitlin's Sunday Night Haul

Hi Pretties!

I'm back with another Sunday night haul.

This week I have just a few beauty items to show you that I have hauled, or you can watch the collective haul video below!

Anyways, if you would prefer the text, here goes.

Yesterday I went to Westfield Tuggerah on the Central Coast in NSW.  This is not my normal shopping centre but I felt like a bit of a change at it is only about a 40 minute drive to Tuggerah so it was a  nice adventure.

At Priceline I picked up the Organix Hydrating Macadamia Oil mask on special for $15 from $20.  Being winter my hair has been a little dry lately and I have been heat styling a little more than normal so I thought my hair could do with a treat.  I used this this afternoon and so far so good.  The smell is divine I really struggled not to try to eat the product!  Sort of like cookies and caramel and all things delicious!

Next I picked up another two of the Essence Stay All Day long lasting eyeshadows.  I looooove these I think the quality is brilliant for $5.50.  I really feel that these compare to the Mac paint pots and mabye are a little bit better again on my lids as they do not crease like my paint pot can.  I bought the colour Glammy Goes To which is a goldern bronze colour and I also purchased Camp Rock which is a silver.  I already have Copy Right which is a bronze.

I also purchased at Target the Target brand Naturals eye make up remover as they were having 40% off and I am almost finished my Maybelline make up remover.  It was only $5ish so I will let you know how that goes.

I wanted to get a Mac mineralise skin finish but the crappy David Jones didn't have a Mac counter so I went to Napoleon instead and broke my Napoleon virginity and made my first purchase from them.  I got a really pretty 'blush' called blush patrol which is a mineralise product with swirls of pink, burgundy and gold shimmer.  I used inverted comers as I really think this is too shimmery for a blush but absolutely gorgeous as a highlight colour.  It would be a very pretty blush, I just prefer a matter blush.

During the week I also picked up a couple of things as well from Target.  I got the green make up remover wipes in the Target brand.  I have tried the pink ones and they were so so but I thought I would give the green ones a try as they are only $3.  I also bought from Revlon the Just Bitten  Lip Stain and Balm as I want to do a comparison between the current Revlon lip stain available in our stores and the new Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain that is available in the US.  I have ordered one so I shall get the comparison up when it arrives.  This was on special for $12 as well.  I ordered off ebay the Covergirl Lip stain as well to compare to the others.  I believe Max Factor also sells a lip stain so I will probably pick that up as well to throw into the mix.

My Revlon lip butter finally arrived from the Revlon app competition as well this week and I got the colour Cupcake.  Unfortunately I already have this colour and it is not one of my favourites so I'll be holding onto this for a swap or a giveaway rather than using it.

Well that's my haul for the week.

What did you guys get?

Empty Product Review - Nivea Aqua Sensations Invigorating Day Cream

Hi Pretties

Happy Friday 13th!  I hope you all have some scary plans for this evening.

I thought I would end the week with an empty product review for you of the Nivea Aqua Sensations Invigorating Day Cream.  If you follow my blog regularly, you will know I'm a huge fan of the Nivea products and this is no exception.

Prior to using this adorable little jar of blue cream I was using the Nivea Young Control Shine Mattifying Cream/Gel.  I had been using the Nivea Young range for years and as my skin was maturing and the dreaded 25 was approaching my skin is no longer oily but is more combination to dry now.  So my Nivea Young was drying me out.  Not that I stopped loving it, I just moved on from it.  So I picked up the Nivea Aqua Sensations expecting great things and I was not disappointed.

The cream comes in a little glass jar with a blue plastic lid and is about $15.  You can get it on special for around $10 if you shop around.  While I love the look and feel of the jar it's not the most hygienic of the bunch, but if you don't share your cream around you should be fine.  Or you can pick up a little spatula if you are worried.

This cream has the regular blue colour and scent of Nivea products that I love, and I find it very moisturizing for my now combination skin.  I do need a thicker moisturizer for night time, particularly in winter but this is still great for day time.  I've already purchased my next jar!

Have you tried to Nivea Aqua Sensations Invigorating Day Cream?  Do you love Nivea as much as I do?

15 tips to stay flu free this winter

Hello my pretties.

I'm sick :(  I have the winter flu.  I have tried so hard to avoid it I normally escape winter without a serious flu but my partner has been quite sick along with my colleagues so it was a little hard to avoid this one.

On the upside, it has motivated me to do a post on a few tips to stay flu free all winter.  (Some I should read a little closer myself!)

1.  Stay hydrated.  You might not feel like drinking as much water in the wintertime, but it is still very important.

2. Stay sanitized.  Wash your hands regularly if you around sick people, or indeed just a lot of people, and carry a handbag sized sanitizer with you to keep the germies away.

3.  Get a flu shop.  Ah the dreaded flu shot debate.  Is it worth it, is it a waste of time/ money?  It can't hurt right!

4. Open the windows.  It may be cold outside but that breeze helps to circulate the stale air and keep your home fresh.

5. Pop a multi-vitamin or vitamin C daily.  If you are not getting all your nutritional needs from you diet (which the majority of us don't) a multi-vitamin will keep your health in check.  Remember to check with your doctor that this won't affect any of your other medications before you start.

6. Use a tissue.  Whenever you blow your nose or sneeze use a tissue not a hanky.  It is more hygienic and they can be thrown in your recycling bin.

7. Use your own glass and bottle of water.  Sharing is caring but sharing germs is yucky in winter!

8. Keep up your exercise routine in winter.  By staying active you stay healthier.

9. Don't smoke, binge drink or use drugs.  Yup, pretty much goes without saying these things can all make us sick and don't keep us at our best.

10. Dry your hair before leaving the house.  Your Grandmother was right... You might catch a cold.  (Dry shampoo and updos are my best friend in winter!)

11. Avoid extreme temperature changes.  Don't stand in front of the heater rugged up before going outside.  Pop your coat and scarf on just before leaving the house to stay as warm as you can.  Same goes for that heater in the car..

12. Get more sleep.  Winter is the perfect time to hibernate in your bed and getting 7-10hrs a night will keep your body fighting fit.

13. If you feel a cold coming on, take a cold and flu capsule and head straight to bed.  It may just save you from suffering the full force of the illness.

14. Glen20 everything.  Your door handles, keyboard, phone, light switches.  Anything that multiple people are touching and spreading germs.

15.  Relax.  Relaxed people are healthy people.  Take some time out for yourself and take a yoga class or read a book under a blanket.

I hope you find some of these tips healthy.  I'm going to take a leaf out of my own book and have a vitamin c, drink up some water and read a book on the lounge.  Daytime TV is crap anyway!

Caitlin's Sunday night haul

Hi Pretties

I'm back to Sunday night hauls and this is a huge collective haul in video form this week.

Enjoy!

Thanks for watching (-:
